First, in case this is your first visit to my blog… I go by the nickname Rich Mom. Because of the financial literacy deficit, my goal is to help as many people, age 30 and under, develop financial literacy. So, thank you for being here. It helps me with my personal mission. Back to today’s topic…
Credit Unions.
What is a credit union?
A credit union is similar to a bank. They offer many of the same services that banks offer, like savings accounts, checking accounts, and loans. The difference is, that because they are owned by the members, they usually offer these services at a better price than banks. They also have better customer service. (I love dealing with my local credit union. They are always so warm and friendly!)
Where Can I Find a Credit Union?
Credit unions can be found all over the United States. However, to use a credit union, membership is required. That membership is usually based on having something in common with the other members. That commonality is often based on place (or industry) of employment, religious affiliation, or a geographic location such as a county or state. For instance, I became part of a credit union through my affiliation with the U.S. military.
So, if you don’t have any of these things, how can you join a credit union? Well, you need to know about credit unions that you can join from anywhere.
