A Secret to Success (One Secret That Is Not Taught In School)

Today, I am sharing a secret to success.

Dear Family,

Today I am going to share with you a secret to success.

Your success is connected to the number of people who you know and who know you. But, not just know you, but the number of people who know you, like you, and trust you

What makes people feel that they know you, like you, and trust you?

It starts with getting people to feel like you understand them, and continues with exceeding their expectations.

My second part of that secret is that as you become friends with people, even though you have to have high standards for your close friends, don’t expect your friends to be perfect. I always say, “I am not perfect, and I don’t expect my friends to be perfect.”  Keeping this in mind, you will be able to develop more and better relationships with people, even those who are not actually your closest friends.

The third part of the secret is that success is not just about financial success. Success is about having a high quality life, which includes having friends, socializing, and sharing experiences.

In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, socializing is not only fun, but it is also good for your mental and physical health also. You do not have to be a super social person to benefit from socializing. Just being able to push yourself a little more to just be able to chat with others in passing can benefit you.

What can you do to encourage others to want to spend time with you?

Be kind to others. The world needs more kindness. Also, when you are being kind to others, you are contributing to making the world a better place. As you do so, you will exceed some people’s expectations, which will lead to them trusting you and liking you.

But remember, being kind means doing something nice for another person, giving without expecting anything back. If you expect to get something back, then you are not being kind, you are being strategic. I encourage you to actually be kind.

Here is a true story related to a Secret to Success

Formerly, I was very shy. When I was pregnant, my husband got a great job opportunity. Unfortunately, it required us to move to another state. Since I wanted to stay with my OB-GYN through our baby’s birth, I stayed behind. Fast forward to after giving birth, I moved to our new home in the other state. I did not know anyone there. So, for the first few months, I spent my day only talking to my newborn.

One Day

One day, it dawned on me that, as a super shy person, who was a stay-at-home mom, it was likely that I would never meet any new people. So, it popped in my head that there must be some other moms that are at home with babies who would also like an adult with whom to talk. So, I found a mom’s club.

The mom’s happened to be a new one, having met only once before I met up with them. The club was small, with about 5 people. None of us knew each other the prior month. Everyone was relatively quiet, and the leader of the group happened to have older kids, and no babies. Because I was new to the state, I may have felt more desperate to meet other people and not let the club disintegrate, but I wound up running the club, as the original leader had parenting activities related to her school-aged children.

Long Story Short: I Used a Secret to Success

Long story short, as a result of running the mom’s club, I ended of being more outgoing…a transition that was perhaps slow, but it happened. Today, I benefit from my increased socializing, feeling healthier, both physically and mentally.

If you would like to read the Mayo Clinic article on the benefits of being socially connected, you can find it by clicking on here: Mayo Clinic Minute: The Benefits of Being Socially Connected.

I encourage you to reach out and socialize.  I want you to have a more enjoyable and successful life!

Big Hugs,

Rich Mom
